they say they will soon be adding a feature to let you import RSS feeds, so hopefully that'll kick in soon. we'll see how well it does and if it supports anything beyond the basic modules. importing my ecommerce feed would be ideal.

Goombah is on my list of sites to explore, I'll get there!

Brad - great points. Even for someone just trying to keep up and not promote one's own work, it takes a lot of time to maintain social network affiliations without their going dead and becoming embarrassing. More on this forthcoming...

In an update, the Scandinavia! group is now up to 9 members, and Avi's still the only one I know, so that's kind of cool. I guess.

Goombah is a new music discovery site that positions artists tracks directly to people based on taste - both promotional tracks and tracks for sampling. Recommendations are drawn from members libraries so the music spreads quickly through the community. Check it out.

I'm tired to death of social networks. Currently I think I maintain three or four different ones to various degrees of half-heartedness.

The only deciding factor to join them as far as I can see is whether it'll significantly increase exposure to your music. MySpace so far has done that for me though whether it's resulted in any album sales whatsoever is tough to figure out. But increased exposure is good regardless.

These days what I want most is a service to tie all the social networks together. I want to be able to feed my main blog and music and gig listings to many different social networks at once. I want to use my own email client to reply to fans and I want to stop having to approve every person who wants to be my "friend" or "fan".

Anyway that's my rant. Virb would have to not create a lot of extra work for me (or god forbid maybe a service could create LESS work for a user?) or the user base would have to be super compelling so that I can't afford to stay away.

Here's the backdoor page for people with an invite (or too shy to ask): virb.com/whoscomingwithme

I'm annoyed that I can't upload music even though I'm signed up as a label - I have to get artists online first and get them to upload tracks before I can add them to my own profile. Seems a little weird, but I can kind of understand why they want to organize it that way. Otherwise, I really really like the interface and the customization. We'll see how it holds up under load-balancing as more folks get online, but it's definitely promising right now.
