But in the split second that mattered, when all the pressure in the world was on, Chalmers was the one who made that shot. I admire that ability to have such self control, calm and poise in a moment of maximal stress. So when I say he's my hero it's not because there's no better ball player, it's because he exemplified a kind of self-controlled unwillingness to imagine defeat combined with the ability to make defeat not happen. And he did it with a smile and what looked t be very little ego. There may well be better players.
